Information for Health Professionals
Medical Professionals, Hospitals, Nursing Homes and PCTs:
Your support is absolutely key to our humanitarian efforts. Please register with us for the collection and redistribution of your surplus or returned medicines that are unused, undamaged, intact with all the necessary information leaflets and have at least 15 months shelf life remaining.
Download our Healthcare Professionals complete information pack now, for more information and to sign up.
Although we will accept most medicines (see our medicines list) from you, our most pressing needs are for antibiotics, painkillers, anti-malarials and anti-retroviral medicines.
For practical reasons we cannot re-use any medicines that have to be stored at controlled temperatures, e.g. in the fridge, or medicines in liquid form, and we do ask you not to send these because the charity has to pay for the disposal of all donated medicines that cannot be re-used.
We can also accept donations of supplies such as syringes and surgical gloves.
Please encourage your customers and patients to return their unused medicines to you, so that you can pass them on in turn to us. You can download a poster / leaflet that describes our services here, and display this prominently in your premises.
Pharmacists and Retail Chemists:
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB)'s Code of Ethics currently precludes the re-use of returned medicines even for humanitarian purposes. There is currently a working party looking at this code of ethics.
Pharmaceutical Companies, Manufacturers and Wholesalers:
Inter Care has enjoyed the support of many pharmaceutical companies both in terms of donations in kind and in sponsorship.
We would be delighted to discuss opportunities for donations of batch over-runs, returns, consignments that have minor outer packaging faults or “make to give” production runs. Please contact us for more information.
