Virgin Money London Marathon Training – 22nd April 2018

Martin Winter

  • How did you hear about Inter Care?

My Dad volunteers for Inter Care so I knew already about the phenomenal work that the charity does.  I’ve run a couple of marathons before, but never London, so when the chance came up to run the London Marathon and raise funds to support Inter Care, that was far too good an opportunity to turn down.

  • How has your training been going so far?

It’s been cold!  Running the race in April meant starting training on Boxing Day and far more running in snow and ice than I bargained on … I’m
hoping the race itself will be lovely and sunny.  Weather aside, the training programme has gone well, so I think I’m in decent shape to complete the distance.

  • How have you found reaching your sponsorship target?

It’s been fantastic.  Before I started I was worried whether I’d hit the target of £1,500 but I’m amazed how generous everyone has been.  I’ve had support from so many people to raise the money – including my sister who asked for
donations to Inter Care rather than presents for her 40th birthday (happy birthday Kathy!) and several workmates who baked some cakes which raised another £200 for the total. Starting early was definitely a good idea and it means with a few weeks to go, I’ve hit the target already, but hopefully there’ll be a bit more still to come. Seeing the total increasing has really helped provide the motivation for the training too.
