We met Derick in 2022 when he was first admitted to Kibosho Hospital. He has been living there ever since.
Derick, wheelchair-dependent due to childhood physical deformities, became bedridden over the past decade after developing complete paralysis. Prolonged sitting resulted in deep septic pressure sores, leading to septicaemia.
In May 2022, he was admitted to Kibosho Hospital with severe grade 4 pressure sores, posing a high risk of life-threatening infection. Since then, Derick has received daily wound care, antibiotics, and nutritional support. His treatment has required various antibiotics, daily dressing supplies, and regular catheter changes.
We Inter Care visited Derick in October 2022, he expressed gratitude for his healing progress and we were delighted to see the positive change in his health. Dr. Materu reported that while Derick remains bedridden and paralysed, his wounds have significantly improved due to antibiotics and regular dressing changes. Inter Care’s support has been crucial for Derick’s recovery, as his family struggles to afford his treatment. His mother is also thankful, and hospital staff are pleased with his overall improvement.
