Inter Care Medical Aid saves the life of Baby Luca

We have successfully managed to supply 33 Tanzanian health units with different medicines and medical supplies with a value of over £65,000 in the past month purchased in country – one of them being St Martin De Pores Orphanage.

On the night of 5 November 2024, a vulnerable child named Luca was brought to Saint Martin de Porres Orphanage by the police. At just one and a half years old, he had been abandoned in the Kizwite area of Sumbawanga, Rukwa Region. His condition was dire—severely malnourished, suffering from malaria, and lacking essential early childhood care. His body was frail, his skin covered in rashes and sores, and his ability to move or respond was almost non-existent.

Recognizing the urgency of his situation, the orphanage provided immediate first aid before transferring him to the mission hospital for further medical evaluation. Doctors confirmed the severity of his condition and recommended specialized orthopaedic care. With guidance from medical professionals, Luca began a rigorous treatment plan, including nutritional support, physical therapy, and joint massages with hot water. His journey to recovery has been slow but promising.

Inter Care has played a crucial role in Luca’s healing process. The medicines we provided—malaria treatments, calamine lotion, clotrimazole cream, painkillers, and antibiotics—have been instrumental in stabilizing his health and boosting his immunity. Without these essential supplies, the orphanage would struggle to afford the medical care necessary for children like Luca.

Beyond Luca’s case, our support extends to the caregivers who dedicate their lives to these children. The medicines we supply not only aid the orphans but also ensure that caregivers remain healthy and able to continue their vital work. By reducing the financial burden of medical expenses, we empower them to focus on providing love, care, and rehabilitation to the most vulnerable.

Sr. Mariagoreth Elias Chusa, the sister in charge of the orphanage centre expressed her gratitude as:

“I as a caregiver of the Saint Martin de Pores orphanage on behalf of the organization of the Sisters of Our Lady Queen of Africa, continue to express my sincere gratitude and recognize your contribution to us.

Inter Care has been a lifeline for us. The medicines you provide have saved lives, eased suffering, and given hope to children who had none. Without your support, many of these children would not survive. We have nothing to offer in return except our deepest gratitude and prayers for your continued success. May you always find the strength and resources to keep helping those in need. Thank you for your love and generosity.”

Inter Care remains committed to supporting all partner health units in dire need of basic health care goods just like St Martin De Pores Orphanage. We will continue to provide life-saving medicines and resources, knowing that every contribution makes a difference.

Every child deserves a chance to heal, to grow, and to thrive. With your support, we can ensure that children like Luca receive the care they desperately need. Your donation is more than just medicine—it’s hope, it’s love, and it’s a future. Join us in transforming lives today. Together, we are not just delivering healthcare—we are transforming lives.
