Simon Mabley
BSc (Hons), C Eng, FCIPD (Chair)
Simon has had a varied career working for large multi-national companies. He is both a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, having held leadership roles both in Supply Chain and HR, within the UK and with a global remit. Simon has had a long term interest in charities that support the development of people both in the UK and abroad. He was for many years trustee for a charity which worked across continents providing healthcare education, and has visited projects in Malawi and elsewhere to see the impact on the ground. As Chair of the Board of Trustees, he works with the team to ensure good governance of the organisation, delivery of our operational goals, and to help Inter Care develop its strategic objectives.
Kathryn Garnett
LLB Law, LPC Law (Vice Chair)
Kathryn started her career as a lawyer practising in social services litigation, but before long moved to work with a charity which specialises in sending medical aid to Malawi. Kathryn has travelled regularly to Africa from childhood and her interests and passions lie in helping with the medical poverty which is widespread there. Kathryn has been a trustee and manager of several medical aid charities for over twenty years. She has been a trustee and volunteer at Inter Care since 2016 and provides valuable insight into the challenges of providing medical aid to African countries and guidance and support to the board on legal and governance matters.
Michael Jones
Treasurer
Michael grew up in Leicester and retains a close affinity with the East Midlands. A Chartered Accountant and graduate of the University of Birmingham, he lives in Birmingham, close to the University. Michael works for Deloitte, having joined as a graduate in 1985. After a career of client service he now has an internal role leading on governance and control across Europe and the Middle East. Michael is married to Jane and they have three adult children.
As Inter Care’s treasurer, Michael will support the charity on all things finance as well as supporting the team more broadly. He is excited to see the impact Inter Care makes and to contribute to the continued growth of the organisation.
Dr Jean Widdowson
BPharm, PhD, MRPharmS
Jean has been a Trustee since 2008. Experience in Pharmacy and Medical Microbiology enables her to play a vital part in ensuring the quality of our medical supplies. In her additional role as Responsible Person, she has since 2013, helped Inter Care to retain a Wholesalers Dealers License (WDA[H]), by ensuring that medicines are procured, handled, and distributed according to Good Distribution Practice. Jean is acutely aware that our aid must be fit for purpose, and has travelled in Africa, constantly updating her knowledge of national public health strategies and assessment of the needs and level of expertise at the health units. She strongly believes that Inter Care’s sustainability lies in our close links with our African partners and our ability to adapt to their changing needs, without compromising their self-sufficiency.
Bob Bailey
M.Sc., C.Eng.
Bob started his career in the electricity supply industry and later the steel industry before moving into environmental management consultancy in the mid-1980s. He has been Managing Director of several consultancy companies covering projects across Europe, USA, Africa, and South America. He has strong personal links with families in Tanzania and South Africa. Bob has been a Trustee of Inter Care for over 15 years and provides assistance to the Board in environmental issues and general business-related matters.
Raj Babla
BSc (Hons), MBBS (Lon), MRCGP (2016)
Raj works as a Portfolio GP in and around Leicestershire. He has a keen interest in education and works with the University of Leicester, University of Nottingham and De Montfort University, teaching and training a variety of students. He has volunteered with Inter Care since 2019, providing support in different projects with the team. He is also part of the Medicines and Healthcare Advisory Team at Inter Care, which provides advice and support for the manager in decisions relating to acquisition and donated aid to the charity. As a side note, Dr David Rosenberg (co-founder of Inter Care), was Raj’s own GP as a child!
Richard Peck
BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering
Richard has been involved with Inter Care since June 2021. He has had an enjoyable career within the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years, spending most of this in temperature-controlled supply chain management. As well as a member of the Board of Trustees, Richard is one of Inter Care’s RPs (Responsible Person), a position the charity is required to have to comply with its Wholesaler’s Dealers Licence, for the storage and distribution of medicines. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area of GDP (Good Distribution Practice), the regulations that govern the charity’s operations. Richard has been involved with charity work for many years, so when the opportunity came about to work with Inter Care, he was excited to be able support such a worthy cause.
